You and your opponents are in charge of construction crews in the Middle Ages! *Will you be the most successful architect?*

Nekonyancer[red]*A quick warning before we start:*[/red]
!!! If you click on anything you're not supposed to, the game will softlock and you'll have to start over. Think before you click! !!!2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerIn *The Builders: Middle Ages,* players will start construction projects, hire workers, and send them to work on the projects.
Each completed project grants money and victory points. *The first player to hit 17 victory points will trigger the end of the game!*3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
Nekonyancer[red]The top row is the supply of available projects.[/red]
[blue]The next row has available workers you can hire.[/blue]
[green]The third row is your personal row.[/green] Anything you take from the first two rows will go here!5avbuildings_item_24000avbuildings_item_16 1 avbuildings_item_21 1 avbuildings_item_24 1 avbuildings_item_41 1 avbuildings_item_44 1 avbuilders_item_52 2 avbuilders_item_58 2 avbuilders_item_68 2 avbuilders_item_71 2 avbuilders_item_73 2 worker_3 3
NekonyancerYou get three actions on your turn. With these, you can:
*1. Start a construction project.*
*2. Hire a worker.*
*3. Assign a worker to work.*
*4. Take coins.*6archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerLet's learn about the first action now: *starting construction projects.*
It's easy! Just click on any building in the top row, and it will go into your personal row. This will cost 1 action.
Try it! *Click on The Crane.*1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment623dfc834185510avbuildings_item_25 16
NekonyancerGreat! You can spend multiple actions doing this if you like, and there's no limit to the number of projects you can have.
Let's go nuts, shall we? *Start construction on The Wooden Shack!*1avbuildings_item_24623dfc8c6e55610avbuildings_item_24 16
NekonyancerAnd let's *take The Straw Hut too!*1avbuildings_item_10623dfca55a00810avbuildings_item_10 16
NekonyancerGreat! We now have three construction projects, which took all three of our actions for the turn. Let's learn a little about how these buildings work.
In the top left corner, there are two numbers.
[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/https___snipboard.io_uUJZwA.jpg[/img]
These are the rewards you get for completing the project! The first number is *coins*, and the second is *victory points*. You'll receive both!1building_10623dfcb853fdd00building_10 6
NekonyancerThe work required to complete the project is shown along the *right side* of the building card. As you can see, there are *four different kinds* of work (stone, wood, knowledge, tile), but this building only requires *two* kinds: stone and tile.
[red]It needs one bar of stone work and two bars of tile work to be completed.[/red]2building_10623dfcb853fdd00building_10 6
NekonyancerThis building over here is a special kind. *It's a machine.*
When it's completed, instead of giving you coins, it will become a free worker for you!3building_25623dfcb853fdd00building_25 6
NekonyancerThat's enough about buildings for now. Go ahead and *end your turn at the top.*4pagemaintitletext623dfcb853fdd10pagemaintitletext 6
NekonyancerNext turn! Let's learn about *assigning workers.*
Everyone started with an apprentice. If we want him to work, we have to *pay* him. His salary is shown in the top-right corner of his card.
[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/https___snipboard.io_GBrtbK.jpg[/img]
It will cost us *2 coins* (and an action) to assign him! 1worker_3623dfcf5a087900worker_3 6
Nekonyancer*Your available funds are shown here.* Everyone starts with ten coins, so we have more than enough to pay him for now.2playercoinicon_11941354623dfcf5a087900playercoinicon_11941354 12
NekonyancerThe work this guy can do is shown along the *left side of his card*. Looks like he can only work with wood and tiles, and both at a low level.
Hey, aren't those exactly the kinds of work required to complete [blue]The Crane?[/blue]3worker_3623dfcf5a087900building_25 7 worker_3 6
NekonyancerLet's send him to work!
*1. Click on The Apprentice.*
*2. Click on The Crane.*4worker_3623dfcf5a087910building_25 18 worker_3 17
Nekonyancer[blue]A few things happened here.[/blue]
1. We paid 2 coins and an action.
2. The apprentice moved to the Crane, contributing to the project.
3. Since all the requirements were met, the project was completed, flipping over to its other side.
4. The apprentice went back to where it was before.
The completion of the project gave us *1 victory point and no coins.*1worker_25623dfd0ad8c4400worker_25 6
NekonyancerRemember, this particular building is a *machine.* Instead of coins, it entered our workforce! Its capabilities are shown on the left. You'll notice that there's no salary shown in the top-right corner.
*We can assign it to work on projects for free!* :)2worker_25623dfd0ad8c4400worker_25 6
NekonyancerWe still have two actions to think about.
Take a look at this [red]Wooden Shack[/red]. We can assign our [blue]apprentice[/blue] again, but he will only contribute 1 bar of wood work. His tile work will be wasted because the shack doesn't require any tile work!3building_24623dfd0ad8c4400building_24 6 worker_3 7
NekonyancerInstead, *let's hire a new worker.* Hiring a new worker only costs 1 action.
[red]*Don't click on anyone,*[/red] but do you see anyone who can build the Wooden Shack by himself?
*Click continue* when you're ready.4avbuilders_item_68623dfd0ad8c4400
NekonyancerThere are two who can manage it: [red]the laborer[/red] and [blue]the master.[/blue]
We could take the master, but it would cost us 5 coins to assign him to work on the Shack, and a lot of his expertise would be wasted.
The laborer can handle this task just as well, and we don't have to pay him as much.
*Click on the laborer to hire him.*5avbuilders_item_53623dfd0ad8c4410avbuilders_item_58 7 avbuilders_item_53 6
Nekonyancer*Now send him to work on the Shack!*1worker_53623dfd1fb815010building_24 18 worker_53 17
NekonyancerGreat!
Before we end our turn, take a look at the top. It says you can buy an action for 5 coins. You can do this as many times as you like in a turn, as long as you have enough money!
It's pretty expensive though, so usually this is only done near the end of the game.
*Let's end our turn now. *We're going to skip ahead a bit...1pagemaintitletext623dfd231c27d10pagemaintitletext 6
Nekonyancer*Look at our opponent's situation*. She has three projects underway and plenty of workers but only one coin, so she can't pay anyone to work!
She has no choice but to spend her actions *taking money.*
1playercoinicon_85332445623dfd98527b100
NekonyancerThe amount of money you get depends on how many actions are used:
*1 action: 1 coin.*
*2 actions: 3 coins.*
*3 actions: 6 coins.*2playercoinicon_85332445623dfd98527b100
NekonyancerIn this case, our opponent opted to use 2 actions taking coins, so she got 3 coins.1playercoinicon_85332445623dfdd12f8a200
NekonyancerAlright. On this turn, let's *start by taking The Inn.*1avbuildings_item_45623dfdd3e010610avbuildings_item_45 16
NekonyancerNext, let's *assign this craftsman to work on The Inn.*
This will cost 4 coins and an action.1worker_56623dfdd5e9eae10building_45 18 worker_56 17
NekonyancerThe Inn is not complete yet, and our craftsman is stuck here until it is!1building_45623dfde296e5100
NekonyancerNote that the right side of The Inn has *changed* to reflect *the amount of work remaining.*
All it needs now is one bar of wood work and one bar of knowledge work!2building_45623dfde296e5100
NekonyancerIt looks like our laborer can complete the project, but there's a problem.
!!! Assigning additional workers to the SAME project on the SAME turn *costs more actions!* !!!
Assign 1 worker: 1 action.
Assign second worker: 2 actions.
Assign third worker: 3 actions.
And so on!3worker_53623dfde296e5100worker_53 6
NekonyancerSo if we assigned this laborer to The Inn right now, it would cost us another two actions. What a ripoff!
If we assigned him to work on a different project, it would just cost 1 action.
[green][tip] This mechanic rewards players for working on multiple projects simultaneously![/green]4worker_53623dfde296e5100worker_53 6
NekonyancerLet's use our last action to start a new project instead.
*Take The Forge.*5avbuildings_item_47623dfde296e5110
NekonyancerAnd that's about it!
Play will continue in this way until one player reaches *17 points* and all players have had the *same number of turns.*
So, if the first player reaches 17 first, other players will get an additional turn. If the last player reaches 17 first, the game is immediately over!1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment623dfdf520b3f00
Nekonyancer*Endgame scoring* is simple. In addition to the points indicated on their buildings, players get 1 point per ten coins remaining.
!!! Points for coins are only granted at the end, so they do *not* contribute to the 17-point endgame trigger! Only building points count for that!
[green]*Whoever has the most points at the end is the winner, with number of coins as a tiebreaker!*[/green]2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment623dfdf520b3f00
