When you select a piece to move, but do not move it, the opponent can see that. I don't think this is something the opponent should know, as it may give information about your thinking process.
If this is a virtual equivalent of "touching a piece", then there should maybe be a rule that if you touch (select) a piece, you must move it, with no "cancel" option.
At the very least, do not show all these piece selections in a replay! -
